About Us
Welcome to East West Medicine
At our clinic, we strive to provide the best medical care and service to our patients. Eastern medicine practices holism, paying close attention to the interdependency of the body, mind and spirit. Western medicine is constantly seeking new ways to improve health by using evidence-based strategies. Separately, it may be difficult to compare the two although each relies on observation and experience. When they work together to provide optimum well-being for the patient, then it is no longer a question of which is better. It’s about moving forward. The approach of East West Medicine is a harmonious one that focuses on treating the patient with the modalities that are most effective for their condition.
Kim Nguyen was raised in Fairfax County and attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. During her studies, she was a part of an independent research study that focused on cognitive behavioral group therapy in conjunction with ear acupuncture or the nicotine patch. This experience gave her a glimpse at the vast realm of knowledge that Chinese Medicine has to offer
Kim is licensed in acupuncture by the Medical Boards of Virginia and is a member of the Acupuncture Society of Virginia as well as the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM). She is certified by the National Certification Commission in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) in acupuncture and Chinese herbology and by the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM) in clean needle technique. She completed her Master’s of Science following a four-year program at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, CA. Kim also traveled to Hangzhou, China to complete an advanced study program at Zhejiang Chinese Medical University in 2009, with special interest in Gynecology and Pediatrics. As a massage therapist in Japanese Shiatsu, she received over 600 hours of training to prepare her with techniques used to correct imbalances of the body as well as promote and maintain one’s health.
Kim believes that one’s lifestyle, diet, environment and genetic predispositions are all critical to understanding the body, mind and spirit. She practices with the intention of cultivating a peaceful experience for her patients while applying TCM theory and diagnosis in the treatment and prevention of disease. It is an integral part of TCM to address the underlying root of the condition and understand that even if the symptoms are resolved, it takes patience to achieve the health of a lifetime.
